18TH-CENTURY CORK SCHOOL Portrait of John Bennett c.1720-1792. of Riverston, Nenagh, wearing a fur edged topcoat. He was educated at the University of Dublin and later at the Middle Temple, Dublin. Bennett married Jane Lovell, daughter of Jonathan Lovell, of Kingswell, Co. Tipperary. In 1776 he was elected to the Irish House of Commons for Dungarvan. and sometime later for Castlemartyr Co. Cork. This led to his appointment as the Chief Magistrate for Cork and Justice of the Court of the King’s Bench, an office he held until his death in 1792. Bennett married Jane Lovell, daughter of Jonathan Lovell of the prominent land-owning family of Kingswell, Co. Tipperary.
